the makings of the nautical party.

I started searching online and "pinning" ideas on Pinterest in June (three months ahead of the party).  This seemed to be the perfect amount of time so that I could slowly work on details, without having to rush to get everything done the week of the party.

I found this invite at "announcing you" on Etsy.  She has adorable birth announcements, Christmas cards, and other party invites with themes like circus, zoo, rainbow, cars, trains, monsters, cowboys, pirates, princesses, etc.

I was in the doctor's office when I saw this lemon sailboat in Good Housekeeping.  I already had the skewers and the scrapbook paper, so I knew I had to make them.

This onesie is no longer available at Carter's, but I found it on clearance at BonTon along with the navy & white pirate ship onesie that he wore.

Mine didn't turn out this pretty, but this is the Betty Crocker Firecracker Red, White, & Blue Cake.

The candy suggestion came from the HGTV site.

This is the specific Cricut cartidge that I bought (on sale at JoAnn's) for my mom's machine.  "Life is a Beach"

Here are the shapes it can cut: they're mostly tropical, but some nautical too.

My cake was an attempt to mix these two ideas: the buoys from the cake on the left, and the blue water design from the cake on the right {Hostess With The Mostess}

Also from the "Hostess With The Mostess" party, I got ideas for the captain's wheel on the highchair, the anchor numbers for the month photos, and the ship model as decoration for the table.

Kara's Party Ideas also had a neat nautical party, which is where I got the design for the photo op.

 I lucked out when I stumbled upon this free font that I used on the food labels.

There were many more ideas that I wasn't able to use.  Aren't they gorgeous?

Time to start brainstorming for next year's party theme?  Nah, not yet.  ;)

  1. What a cute party theme, little G's birthday is right around the corner (I can't believe it!) I need to start brainstorming ideas for him. I was thinking maybe a woodsy/camping theme.

    1. A woodsy/camping theme would be adorable! I had a friend do that last month, with s'mores, hot dogs, mountain pies... She had cupcakes that were covered with chocolate candy melts to look like pinecones, and other cupcakes with a Hershey kiss, candy melt top, and chocolate chip to look like acorns. :)
