citizens of heaven

I have been reading a book called, “Finding Your Purpose as a Mom” by Donna Otto. Someone gave it to me, and I didn’t pick it up off the shelf for a long time because the title and cover didn’t catch my attention. But I have been slowly making my way through it, and I feel like every word in it is gold. Currently, I’m reading about making your home a haven of peace (which I’ll have to write about later).

At the end of one of the chapters, Otto borrows this quote:

“We are not citizens of this world trying to make our way to heaven; we are citizens of heaven trying to make our way through this world… we live as those who are on a journey home; a home we know will have the lights on, and the door open, and our Father waiting for us when we arrive. That means in all adversity our worship of God is joyful, our life is hopeful, our future is secure. There is nothing we can lose on earth that can rob us of the treasures God has given us and will give us.” (emphasis mine)
–The Landisfarne

This is encouraging to me on the day of such a horrific tragedy in Connecticut. My prayers are with the students and families involved.

Philippians 3:20 “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

  1. Oh my goodness, I LOVE Donna Otto. I listen to her podcast, "Homemakers by Choice". Many of her words have been running through my head as I contemplate today.

    Yes, I am eagerly waiting!

  2. Such a great post for the sad issue at hand... that quote is perfect.

I love your blog and can't wait to follow along!

    It's an Easy Life

Thank you so much for your comments! I enjoy reading each one!
