riddle me this, Batman | non-stagrams

Frank Gorshin played “The Riddler” on the Batman TV series in the ‘60s. Steve loved that show growing up. My mom and dad saw Frank Gorshin’s stand-up comedy act at the Hyatt O’Hare (Chicago) on their wedding night, June 10, 1978! We went home and watched him on an episode from the first season of Charlie’s Angels. He was quite the entertainer!

We realized Nolan had Batman socks on. Steve dressed him before he knew we were going to see Frank’s grave.

Picking dandelions and sharing with mama.

Enjoying the cemetery—and all the cool rocks everywhere.

Those eyelashes!

Tired after climbing the hills.

Tried making almond milk—not bad.

I took Nolan to the park for the first time this year, and stopped at Starbucks for a vanilla steamer. :)

Nolan spent a lot of the time at the park intrigued by this sign, and pretending to read it out loud.

So precious.

We can’t seem to go to Chick-fil-A without getting milkshakes.

He kept saying “num num num”.

I made Steve a paper chain countdown for how many classes he has left to attend—ever in his life!! He may not even have to go to the last two during finals week. I can’t believe we are this close to the end!

Post bath.

He was watching (and laughing) at videos of himself.

the honest co.

honest-company-trial
My cousin Dayna encouraged me to get a free trial of The Honest Company. I have loved everything I’ve heard about Jessica Alba’s company, and I was excited to give the products a try. I ordered both their diapers & wipes trial and the home products trial. (I paid $5.95 for shipping.)

The hand soap is “lemongrass” scented, and the shampoo/body wash is “sweet orange vanilla”—both of which smell delicious. Their products are organic, free of chemicals, and hypoallergenic. I am really impressed with how natural and pure they are—free of petroleum, parabens, gluten, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, and dyes.

The diapers are adorable. It is fun to have patterns other than just the Luvs monkeys. And they are biodegradable.

I personally can’t afford to shop with The Honest Company on a regular basis (student’s wife), but I am definitely keeping them in mind for the future!

chocolate “neiman marcus” bars

chocolate-neiman-marcus-bars

I discovered that this recipe had both chocolate cake mix and cream cheese in it, and I knew I had to try it immediately! It tastes like a fantastic brownie, with a hint of chocolate cheesecake.

Ingredients:
1 box chocolate cake mix
4 eggs
1 stick butter, melted
16 oz (1 pound) powdered sugar
1 (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:
In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, two of the eggs, and the butter. Spread it into a greased
9 x 13 inch baking dish.

Next, in a new bowl, mix the powdered sugar, cream cheese, cocoa powder, and the last two eggs. Use a hand mixer until it is smooth and blended. Stir in the chocolate chips, and then spread the mixture evenly over the top of the cake layer.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in a 350 degree oven. When it’s out of the oven, let it cool for thirty minutes, and then move it to the fridge for at least two hours.

Thanks to Mix and Match Mama for the recipe! She has other varieties of the “Neiman Marcus” bar as well… lemon, candy cane, white chocolate pumpkin, snickerdoodle, chocolate peanut butter, red velvet, and the original.

a spa day for mamas

Today, my MOPS group had a spa day. The local cosmetology academy sent the students over to do manicures and pedicures for us for free!

I made my hot fudge as a dipping sauce, and the other girls brought in marshmallows, pretzels, grahams, strawberries, bananas, and cookies. I won this little crockpot at my family’s Christmas party, and I was glad to use it for the first time!

The manicure table.

Pedicures

This little guy slept through the whole thing!

I wish I had gotten photos of the cool colors and designs that some girls got for their nails and toes, but here are mine—OPI’s “Berlin There Done That” (gray/taupe), with OPI “GoldenEye” on my ring fingers ;)  With my luck with manis/pedis, I have already ruined one nail and one toe. Oh well—it was free!

I don’t know what I’m going to do when MOPS is over for the summer from May to September! I love these ladies.

we were suckers for the advertising for Pizza Hut’s Crazy Cheesy Crust. it was pretty good, but needed a little more sauce.

trees are in bloom; our town is starting to look gorgeous.

I had my first mail order for hot fudge!

I have been checking Bath & Body Works for a year and a half for this scent of soap (Vanilla Berry Sorbet), and I thought it had been discontinued. But I found it online, and ordered six! The smell reminds me of the month that Nolan was born. :)

cute chic flick we watched last night on TV. I’ve missed Alexis Bledel!
