“the marriage you’ve always wanted” book giveaway

Marriage is tough sometimes. I have been completely blessed with a husband whose personality meshes so well with mine. He goes above and beyond at everything he does for our family. He willingly shares the chores with me, he puts my needs first, and he patiently talks me through moments when I have worry and anxiety. But marriage is still tough sometimes. None of us are immune to that. It takes a conscious effort to have a good marriage. It takes a firm commitment to each other, even when one isn’t “feeling in love”. And it takes a countercultural selflessness.

I enjoyed reading Gary Chapman’s book, The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted. I really think it touches on all of the common marriage problems—who takes care of what responsibilities, what to do when one spouse refuses to open up, how to maintain relationships with parents and in-laws, sex issues, making big decisions together, and dealing with MONEY.

I especially like that after every chapter, there is a worksheet of questions to ask yourself and your spouse—to help you make the changes that need to happen in order to find true oneness in your marriage.

Are you trying to change your spouse?
Do you know what it means to really love someone?
How do you stop arguing about money?
Do you feel ignored or even alone in your effort to improve your marriage?

“The supreme purpose of marriage is the union of two individuals at the deepest possible level and in all areas, which in turn brings the greatest possible sense of fulfillment to the couple and at the same time serves best the purposes of God for their lives.”—The Marriage You’ve Always Wanted

“Dr. Gary Chapman’s expertise in marriage begins with the success and failures he and his wife Karolyn have experienced in their marriage for more than 45 years. He is just the man to turn to for help on improving or healing our most important relationships. His own life experiences, plus over thirty-five years of pastoring and marriage counseling, led him to publish his first book in the Love Language series, The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate. Many of the millions of readers credit this continual New York Times bestseller with saving their marriages by showing them simple and practical ways to communicate love. Dr. Chapman and his wife have two grown children and currently live in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he serves as senior associate pastor at Calvary Baptist Church.”
