friday favorites

To wrap up this week, here are some of my favorite things that happened!

1. Nolan and his “Cars” cars.

Steve is on the lookout for diecast cars from the Pixar/Disney movie “Cars,” mainly the major characters from the town of Radiator Springs. Yesterday morning we gave Nolan “Sally,” the Porche—which was really hard to find! Nolan got so excited, and pretty soon he called us into the room to show us that they were all having a party :)

2. Ephraim’s toy-stage is in full swing!

This little guy always has to have a toy in his mouth. This is helping him have a little more independent time, as it keeps him entertained longer than five minutes. :)

3. Raspberries from our garden.

I think last year, our raspberry bushes peaked in late August, but we are seeing red this week! I have seriously picked almost a hundred raspberries a day! And all of this from only a few little bushes!

4. The things out of this kid’s mouth.

It has been SO fun to hear Nolan’s words turn in to such complete thoughts and conversations! We are getting to see his imagination at work and finally understand more of what goes on in his head :) Here are two examples:

When leaving a graduation party on Sunday, he said to the mom of the grad: "Tank you Mrs. H—. I love you!” Yesterday, after picking up some food items, he said “Bye grocery store, I love you!”

Also, he keeps repeating sentences like this every time he gets a minor injury: “I hurt mine thumbie. I need to go to the goctor and get a bandaid and then go to the ice cream store!”

5. My favorite friend’s birthday is tomorrow.

I can’t wait to celebrate Steve’s birthday!! It’s one of my very favorite days of the year, and hopefully I’ll be able to spoil him with cake and presents and all good things!

Check out that jawline! :)

DIY box of sunshine

box of sunshine
Several weeks ago, I compiled little “Boxes of Sunshine” for two very special people. I want to share what I included in case you have someone in your life who could use a little happy mail :)

box of sunshine

1. Yellow Post-Its (Full adhesive sticky notes)
2. Ring Pops (package of 4)
3. Box of Crayola crayons
4. Two Mr. Goodbars
5. Sally Hansen Hard as Nails polish in “Hard Lemonade”
6. EOS lip balm in “Lemon Drop”
7. Mott’s original fruit snacks
8. Juicy Juice gum
9. Lemonheads
10. Lipton White Tea in “Peach Mango”

I lined the box with yellow shredded crinkle paper, and threw in a few yellow balloons as well. All of it was bought at Walmart. :)

I want to try this again—using other colors!

what i wore wednesday

These are my very favorite shorts—I’m sure I’ve professed my love of mint in many previous posts. So the other night, I was at a “Mom’s Night Out” event at my friend Amy’s amazing house on the lake. After we ate dinner, Amy brought out peach and blueberry pie ingredients, ready to assemble in Mason jars and take home. I actually had my hands full with Ephraim (I know, Mom’s Night Out), and so I didn’t put them together myself, but it was the CUTEST party idea! I took two Mason jar pies home, baked them in the oven for Steve and me, and proceeded to spill a giant hunk of blueberry on my mint shorts. Providentially, I had just bought my first container of “Dirty Jobs Oxygen Stain Remover”, and got that big purple stain right out. Thank goodness, right? After having two babies, getting stains out has become a kind-of-hobby of mine :)

(Here’s the recipe for pie in a jar in case you wondering!)

Top: American Eagle (old)
Shorts: JCrew 4” Chino
Sandals: Crocs Sexi Flip in bronze/espresso

Happy Wednesday!

the boys’ rooms

I have been so excited to share this post with you all! It’s been a long time coming. We moved into this house last July, and we painted Ephraim’s room in October. As for decorating, it has taken me this long because of all of the little projects I had in my head for this room, and the lack of time I had to work on them. Plus, Ephraim hadn’t actually been sleeping in his room yet! I’m super thrilled about how it looks now. Take a peek! :)

This is how it looked before the former owners moved out.
They had two young boys, but hadn’t updated the pink clouds and rainbows from the ‘80s!

This photo was taken right before Steve sanded and refinished all the floors in the house. You’ll definitely see a difference in future photos.

It took Steve a lot of time to get all the wallpaper off. He used liquid fabric softener mixed with hot water.

Since Nolan’s room is so blue, I wanted Ephraim’s room to be something totally different. I chose a gray/white/lime green color scheme.

It was just happenstance that the baby furniture we have is cherry wood, and everything goes GREAT with all the dark wood we have in our bedrooms. Steve updated the outlets, switch, and covers to white.

It’s been really nice having a changing table on both first and second floors. We have two that are identical—the second one we found next to the dumpster at our old apartment! I spray-painted some embroidery hoops, then put fabric in them to match the fabrics already in the room.

Nolan did a number on the crib rails with his teeth when he was a baby. I covered them with fabric to hide the marks and prevent new ones.

For the mobile, we spray-painted some sticks and attached poms with yarn.

Not that his room was all DIY, but I sewed this crib sheet when Nolan was a baby.

We picked up this old dresser from my in-laws. I wish I had a better picture of it, but it was orangey and had mismatched handles.  Steve sanded it and finished it with a red mahogany stain.

I posted Nolan’s room in January– If you want to see the whole before and after, that’s here.

When we moved in.

His room is pretty bare because he can’t have any toys at naptime or nighttime or he’d never sleep :)

Print by me.

Guitar by Daddy.

His footprints when he was eight months old (E will put his on there too), 2nd birthday party invite, puppy painted by Hannah, and his first ever photo :)

Linking up with Andrea for her “Come On In” series!
See the other rooms we’ve done!

Thanks for stopping by! Next month, we’re doing playrooms/offices. I have my work cut out for me! :)

life lately

A smattering of photos from the last few weeks! It’s been wild and busy, but we have been trying to enjoy every last drop of summer.

In just a few weeks, our garden has exploded! These are just the green beans :) (Below is what they look like now.)

We’ll leave it short and simple today :) I’m working on a big post for tomorrow—Ephraim’s bedroom from start to finish. Come back and see it in the morning!
