What I Wore

Hello to the first day of July! There was a very short break in the rain yesterday afternoon, so we snapped a few photos of my current favorite summer outfit. We've had an absurd amount of rain in the past few weeks, so I'm hoping July will make up for it and give us plenty of sunshine and warmth in Pennsylvania! My boys are itching to be outside, and I can't wait to check off more on our summer to-do list!

I call these my "fancy shorts" because they have a pretty, mint-colored pattern on them, and all my other shorts are solid colors. They are incredibly soft and flowy, and they even have pockets. The best part though? The comfortable elastic waistband! They can be dressed up or dressed down, depending on the occasion. With heels, they could be fun for date night or Moms' Night Out. I went the casual route, and I paired them with a simple, white racerback tank, some matching mint jewelry, and my go-to Crocs sandals. :)

ALSO! Tomorrow, Astleigh and I are posting about our FOURTH OF JULY DECOR for the Every Girl Link-Up! If you have some red, white and blue around your house this week, snap a few photos and join us in the morning!

What I Wore

Somehow the hours between 8 pm and 11 pm FLY. Other parts of the day seem to slowly pass, but once the little boys are in bed, the time slips through my fingers. I try to cram in every chore and every relaxing activity that I can--which is beautifully paradoxical. Anyone else with me on this? ;)

This has been my night tonight:

Put the boys to bed.
Have husband take a few outfit photos.
Pull some weeds in the garden before the sun goes down.
Switch over a load of laundry.
Straighten up the toys.
Watch half of an episode of "Royal Pains" on Netflix with husband.
Start a blog post.
Encounter writer's block.
Get distracted looking at updates on Facebook.
Click on a new music video.
Finish the blog post.
Drink a cup of tea.
Read a devo.
Finish the episode of "Royal Pains".
Practice a little yoga.
Wash sippy cups for the morning.
Race the clock to get into bed by midnight.

Whew.

Maybe someday I'll have time to distribute these to-dos throughout my day, but for now, this is life in the trenches with little ones who can never go unsupervised ;)

It never reached 70 today, and it was a bit rainy, but I still love the freedom to wear sleeveless shirts in June. Nolan has one muscle shirt that he ALWAYS wants to wear, and he points out to everyone, "My arms are sticking out!" ;)

What I Wore

I found this ethereal white kimono at Target a few weeks ago. I was enamored with the beautiful crochet detail on the back, so it inevitably came home with me. ;)

This week so far has found me with high highs and low lows, and through it all, God has been faithful to me. He reassures me that the little day-to-day problems I face are so small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things. And though sometimes life feels a little monotonous, I feel like He’s telling me that right now is a turning point towards some pretty wonderful things.

What I Wore

May has been good to us so far! Everything is turning GREEN, and the weather has hit the 70s for a few days in a row! This coral/red dress is my favorite in warm weather. It’s the perfect church dress because it’s modest, made of a comfy cotton, and it has a loose fit in the middle. :)

If my lip/chin look swollen in these photos, it’s because on Monday morning, I went through a gum graft surgery. When the healing is over and I know how successful it was, I’ll share more about it. But basically, my gums have been receding, so I went to a dentist that specializes in gums (periodontist). She told me that there was one tooth specifically that looked pretty bad and could use a graft. She took tissue from the roof of my mouth and sewed it to the gum line. I was nervous about the procedure, but since I was numb, it went swimmingly. The recovery later on was/is a little rough, but I’m happy to have the procedure behind me!

I haven’t actually seen the graft yet. My bottom teeth are covered in a putty that looks like chewing gum! Should be interesting to see when the dressing falls off!

What I Wore

Floral & Jeans

SANDALS!! Goodness, I have missed them. I have less trouble matching my shoes to my outfit. And it feels so good to get some sunshine on my toes! This outfit is one of my go-to’s in the spring. The shirt is not particularly fancy, but the pretty indigo color and the floral pattern make it unique and eye-catching.

Now that we’re a couple of weeks into April, I’m letting my thoughts wander into our summer plans. Steve will be done teaching his classes in May, and then our schedule goes into a simpler mode—yay! Tonight, I am pulling out our calendar to pencil in a road trip for the early summer :)

What I Wore

Can I start this post by telling you about my long-held obsession with what I call the “Lorelai Gilmore dresses?” Somewhere around season 5, Lorelai starts wearing stunning dress after stunning dress to work at the new Dragonfly Inn. They are fitted knee-length dresses with 3/4 length sleeves, and usually an overlapping v-neck. I was a jeans and tee shirt college girl when those later seasons aired—but I’ve always held on to how wonderful I think those Lorelai dresses look!

Last fall, I was rewatching some G.G. episodes on Netflix when I mentioned the Lorelai dress to Steve. A few weeks later, he came home with this pink and black Aztec-patterned beauty. He had gone to a wedding out of town and secretly searched the clearance section at Target on his way home :)

What I Wore || Top Five

Good morning, April!!

I wanted to get a new outfit post up for you, but it was SNOWING all day yesterday! I have frozen my toes off many a time trying to get good photos, but yesterday, I took a break :)

I poked through my archives to find my FIVE FAVORITE “What I Wore Wednesday” posts. They’re all outfits that I loved, got positive feedback for, and I would still wear them any day of the week. Take a look!

1. The first outfit (above), I took when I was brand new at writing fashion posts in May 2013. I put on some turquoise skinny jeans, one of Steve’s Hanes white tees (half tucked in), my Crocs sandals, and a cute polka dot headwrap. Then Steve snapped a few photos in front of our old apartment :) It will always be a favorite of mine!

2. A year and a half ago, I had seen a girl on a blog wearing this exact tribal print cardigan—and I searched EVERYWHERE online for it. There were so many black and white Aztec sweaters around, but I loved the extra pops of turquoise in it! With no success, I gave up on searching. About a month later, we were on an outing to Target with new baby Ephraim and the sweater was there! It is definitely one of the best items of clothing I have ever bought :)

3. This was my birthday dress last summer! I bought it on GroopDealz (now Eleventh Avenue) for a steal. The top of it is light pink, though I realize it looks a little nude in the photo. It makes me feel like a million bucks, and I can’t wait to wear it again in a few months!

4. Such a simple outfit—tank, cardigan, jeans—but it is so ME as a mom. My TOMS desert wedges go with EVERYTHING, and I never get sick of them.

5. This top was another GroopDealz (now Eleventh Avenue) purchase this winter. It’s my favorite color, and I think the lace at the bottom just knocks it out of the park as far as shirts go :)

Do any of those outfits pop out at you?

Thanks for stopping by today!

What I Wore

Stripes and Jeans

I’m sure that if you told a younger Rachel that she would be doing a weekly fashion post on a public blog, she would not have believed you. I’m not a girl who needs to be the center of attention, I don’t like to be on a stage, I don’t like public speaking, and I can’t stand being on a video camera.

Sometimes I feel silly posting photos of myself in various outfits, but I want to model an affordable and attainable way of dressing your best as a mom. And I want to stay accountable to taking care of myself and looking nice, even if it turns out only my husband and my sons see me.

I truly believe 1 Peter 3:3-4: “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” :)

What I Wore Wednesday

Floral Shirt, Cardigan, Jeans, Clogs

It’s March 18th, and we can FINALLY see grass again in our yard! Our driveway is nearly melted, and I feel like my car has this newfound freedom of being able to leave home without getting stuck! Whew.

I found this cardigan on L.L.Bean’s website when I was buying a new bed cover for Ivy (they have the best dog beds, and I love the monograms!) I am bummed that this particular cardigan is out-of-stock already, because I wanted to share it with you. It’s Supima cotton—super soft, super comfortable, and it’s the perfect long length on me. The color was called “Ledge”, and I wasn’t quite sure if it was going to be a stone gray or a light brown—but whatever color it is, I LOVE it, and it goes with everything. I paired it with a favorite floral shirt, jeans, and some bright white wooden clogs.
