Our Adventures

Friday is here, and I am ready for a nap! We've had some really great adventures this week. We're still enduring some winter weather, so it's been nice to have indoor activities to keep the boys busy. We don't have many plans for the weekend. Hopefully the boys (and the dog) will sleep all the way through the night one of these days, and we'll feel 100% rested. . . hopefully ;)

Last Friday, we went to our friend Rylee's 2nd birthday party. She had an adorable Winnie the Pooh themed event, and the cupcakes looked like little yellow honey pots. Nolan's head got in the way of these photos, but E's face was adorable trying to lick the frosting off of his nose!

The new way to eat a cupcake. . .

They played "Pin the tail on Eeyore". Ephraim was a little off.

On Saturday, I went to a beautiful wedding shower and somehow ended up with zero photos of it. After I got home, we went bowling with our church family. It was the boys' first time, and they had a blast!

Ephraim was strong enough to carry his 6-pound ball over to the ramp by himself!

With the ramp (and bumpers!), the boys did pretty well, haha.

Ephraim threw one of his lay-on-the-floor fits when it was time to return the bowling shoes :)

I've been reading my new MOPS "Hello Dearest" magazine.

"Some of the deepest and most beautiful parts of us go dormant during certain seasons of life and we have to do the sacred work of waking them back up." -Leeana Tankersley.

I'm thinking about new ways that I can embrace rest, whether it be journaling, reading, starting this year's garden, going for walks. . . something other than resorting to TV and Instagram to relax.

He is always at my side, always asking me to "Look at this, Mommy!" And his love tank needs frequent hugs.

I so treasure the moments when my big 26-month-old wants to snuggle on my shoulder. He's still got some baby left in him! When he doesn't want to be alone in his bed, his happy place is right in between Mommy and Daddy in our bed.

Friends of ours gave us fresh farm eggs from their chickens. They are such pretty colors and sizes--especially the blue ones!

On Tuesday, we drove over an hour to find Daddy at work! Nolan hadn't been on campus since before he was two, and Ephraim had never been. They were really curious where Daddy goes when he says he's teaching school.

We ate lunch in his office, and then he showed us around the brand new building where his classroom is this semester. It's such an awesome new facility.

We don't have much spring yet where we are, but on campus, the white trees were blooming!

We are hoping the next time that we are all there, Steve will be graduating as Dr. Zimm! He still has to defend his dissertation, so it won't be May, but hopefully soon thereafter!

Nolan and I had lunch with my friend Sara and her baby, and we took a quick drive past the lake. I am so ready for summer!

My mom heard about a book signing at the library, so we decided to take the boys. They were giving away the Pennsylvania "One Book: Every Young Child" 2016 book to every preschooler who attended. It was so much fun!

They listened to the read-aloud of the book, "Kite Day". Then they made paper kites and learned about wind.

They ran through the "rain" about a million times!

And then we waited in line for Will Hillenbrand to sign our new books!

"A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms."

Thanks for stopping by today. Have a fabulous weekend!

This week's #thedarlingdetails Instagram topic is #onmyshoulder. Interpret that however you want, and post a photo tagging @astleigh_hill and @rachel.zimm, and using our hashtags! We'll choose one later today to post on our feeds!

  1. Loved the pictures! Is Will Hillenbrand kin to Laura Hillenbrand who wrote Unbroken and Sea Biscuit? Library time is so fun! I bet the boys loved the new book!

  3. I love that idea of the book + activity! I have decided I want to do something each month this summer for Winston's classmates where we read a book and then have a fun craft/snack/adventure. I think this would be awesome! Thanks for sharing!
