Friday Favorites

Fri-YAY! This week has been nice and low-key. Steve made it through the last few hurdles of grading for the semester. Nolan and Ephraim have spent hours and hours playing with their cars and reading books. And I have felt pretty accomplished in my to-do lists. This morning, we are going to a Christmas Cookie playdate with friends, and we are super excited! There are only seven sleeps before Christmas, and I am going to enjoy every minute of the festivities :)

I wrote down this quote on Wednesday because it was on my mind and heart. Whenever one of the boys breaks a favorite toy, or a brand new outfit gets stained or ripped, or an heirloom shatters to pieces on the floor, I find myself repeating Robert Frost's words, "Nothing Gold Can Stay". Though it doesn't sound like the most positive saying, it is true, and it is reassuring to me. Jesus said in Matthew 6:19-21, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven. . . For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Focusing on the people, the moments, the memories.

Yesterday, I posted the recipe for these Cranberry & White Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies. You will love the tart berry and sweet chocolate combination! It's a perfect holiday cookie to make this week or file away for later this winter  :)

On Tuesday, I posted about cutting down our very first real Christmas tree! We had so much fun choosing our blue spruce and getting it trimmed with lights and ornaments! I promised a photo of what it looks like all decorated. . . I am in love with it! There is such a huge difference between our faux tree and this one; I can't believe it. Our living room looks so bright and cozy during these overcast days.

And if you missed Wednesday's post, the gist is that Nolan made for one adorable shepherd in the Christmas program last weekend :)  Four is such a funny age!

Lastly, my favorite video this week is of my friend Taryn! In this Celtic Christmas Medley, she plays all of the parts--violin, accordion, tambourine, chimes, bongos, tin whistle. . . this girl is incredible! She has such talent, and she is gorgeous to boot. Her YouTube channel is here.

If you're local, Taryn and her sister Carrie are leading worship at our church on Sunday. Message me on Facebook for more info :)

Peace and joy be with you this weekend!

  1. I would get so upset if things broke and then realized they are things and can be replaced!! Cocoa destroys everything but I love her so much and would rather have puppy kisses :). Merry Christmas!!

  7. Fresh trees are amazing! :) And agree on your perspective on earthly things. I am right there with you. We try our best not to get upset or worked up when stuff breaks or things happen - our philosophy is that we will wash it out or try our best to fix it but accidents happen. And how much greater is the joy and inheritance we have waiting for us in heaven!! Enjoy your weekend!
