Ephraim’s Peter Rabbit First Birthday Party

Peter Rabbit First Birthday Party

On Saturday, we celebrated Ephraim’s first birthday with a Peter Rabbit themed party! It was a sunny day despite all of the snow we got right before the party (and right after)! A cold January day calls for a garden party to remind us of spring, doesn’t it? :)  We had such a wonderful time! Ephraim has been blessed with so many special people in his life. I still can’t believe our baby is one!

I had a vision of what I wanted the party to look like, and it came together even better than I expected!

One of my favorite pieces of the party were these Oreo cream cheese balls, dipped in green candy and wrapped in mini cupcake liners to look like heads of lettuce.

My mom has gotten REALLY good at making decorated sugar cookies. Aren’t they beautiful!?

Steve and I built a 6-layer chocolate “Dirt Cake”! It was fun to make a “naked” cake, as they call it. We topped it with a couple of radishes.

Thanks to my mother-in-law Alice for bringing some real garden veggies :)

These are hard to see, but they are little bunny cookies (Annie’s organic brand).

I dipped pretzel rods in green and orange candy melts, and laid them in a bed of crushed Oreos.

We printed some Peter Rabbit posters from PeterRabbit.com.

Tiger lilies brought bright shades of orange and green to the mantel.

So fun (and cheap) that for a Peter Rabbit party, you can decorate with kale and cabbage and ferns—whatever is green and pretty!

This 2x3 poster was printed at Staples for $4, and it was the perfect focus for the display.

We had all of Ephraim’s month photos taped up on the wall.

I had fun designing all of the little food signs. I found the small pots for a good deal on DollarTree.com.

My mom has collected Peter Rabbit glass figurines and books over the years. So cute!

I love this photo of my boys!

Ephraim loved watching Nolan sing “Happy Birthday” to him. :)

”What do I do with this?”

He started taking tiny bites of frosting.

At this point, he decided to pick up the cake and eat it in earnest.

But all of a sudden, the cake fell apart. And Ephraim FLIPPED out!

He was NOT happy that his cake was in a million pieces! I couldn’t get him to eat any more of it, and it was hard to get him back in party mode :)

We had a lot of little friends helping to open the presents!

E left present-opening to make a fun game of crawling under the table and playing Peek-A-Boo.

Thanks to those of you who came to the party and made it so special for us! We missed many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends—wish you could have all been here!

Happy First Birthday, Ephraim Luke!! We love you!

And a reminder for my blogging friends—we are doing the Every Girl Link-Up on Thursday! Get your Valentine’s décor photographed so you can share with us! :)

  4. Happy 1st Birthday to Mr. Ephraim! I would cry too if my cake fell into a gazillion pieces! You did a fab job with the details - the pretzel "carrots" in Oreo "dirt; the "real" veggies; the little Oreo "cabbages". And that fab chocolate cake with not too much frosting! Sooo cute!

  12. Your six layer cake looks fantastic and the radishes on top were such a nice touch! Everything goes so beautifully together with the real vegetables, orange flowers, and pieces your mom has collected. Also, that picture of Ephraim crying over the cake is adorable even though he was so sad.
