an afternoon at the pumpkin patch

On Saturday, I couldn’t wait to take Nolan to a pumpkin patch for the first time. Living in a small town, I am always looking for events we can do and places we can go with a 2-year-old—since there aren’t always a lot of options. I have great memories of going to the pumpkin patch as a kid. My sister and I were a part of AWANA at church, and every year, we would take a bus from Chicago up to a farm in Wisconsin to see adorable farm animals and choose the biggest and best pumpkins. I wanted Nolan to experience this sweet and simple fall tradition.

As soon as Nolan saw all the pumpkins, “punks” as he calls them, he started loading them into a wagon. It was endearing to watch the gears in his mind turning, as he did this totally unprompted.

Look at that strong guy!

Steve and I had never done a corn maze before—not really worth $4, but cool nonetheless.

They had little pools and sandboxes full of dry corn for kids to play with. Nolan found himself a spot, and he would have been content to stay there the whole day. With cold little hands, he used a shovel to scoop and pour the corn over and over again, as if it was his gold treasure.

This little boy is so beautiful. I’m looking forward to discovering and rediscovering more traditions with him. :)

  3. As I saw that last picture of Nolan, I realized you should hold onto that! To you Nolan looks so big right now, after all he's not a baby anymore and once that baby #2 is born he'll look even bigger! Baby #2 will turn a year old, and you will look at these pictures of Nolan around this time (or close to your delivery with #2) and realize just how "babyish" Nolan really is. I know this probably doesn't make any sense, and I'm having trouble explaining it, but my memories of Jessa close to my due date with Jacen, I thought she was "so grown up!" Now that Jacen is the same age (about) as Jessa was during that time it's shocking to think I was having another while Jessa was still so young. What i'm trying to say is.... hold on to that picture! It will be shocking to you in a year or so! haha Miss you!
