Blueberry Picking

There was one particular thing that I had on my summer bucket list . . . actually my life bucket list . . . to go berry-picking! When we moved into this house, we inherited some incredible raspberry bushes, so I have done my share of raspberry picking in my own backyard. But I had never gone to a "U-Pick" farm. Being in lush Pennsylvania, I knew such farms were around, but when I did online searches several times this summer, all I found was outdated information. Finally, when I started calling around on Saturday, I found a farm that was open for its last weekend of blueberry picking!

They made it clear to me on the phone that it was going to be slim pickings, so I brought some small containers and imagined foraging through on our hands and knees to find leftover berries. I didn't imagine we would find FULL bushes! :)

Nolan and Ephraim immediately got to picking, and they both LOVED it!

Ephraim found a doggie to chase. . . :)

It was sunny and in the mid-eighties, so the boys got some cute pink cheeks!

We picked 5 pounds for only $6.25! I wish we could have stayed longer and picked enough to last the whole winter. :)

I've already made blueberry pancakes and blueberry zucchini bread (and I've been snacking on them all weekend). Yum!

I'm so glad we crossed off berry picking from my summer bucket list. I can tell that it's a memory Nolan will hang on to for a long time, if not forever. I was a city girl growing up and didn't get to do outdoorsy things like this. I love that I am able to now, and it makes me fall a little bit more in love with Pennsylvania. We can't wait to go as a family again next summer! :)

  1. What a fun day! I know of the perfect little U-pick farm that has a glorious strawberry patch in the spring, and fun hayrides to the pumpkin patch to pick your own pumpkin in the fall....I'd be happy to send the info your way if you want to give that place a try too. :)

  3. We did blueberry picking earlier this summer, too! But Parker wanted to be held the entire time so I have very few photos. Your locations looks gorgeous!
