june 19

I’ve been thinking about my dad today. He has been gone 22 years, and I think I will stop counting this year—that’s just too many. June is my favorite month because it’s full of summer, anniversaries, weddings, vacations, family. And this sadder day always slips in among the happy ones.

Here are a few of my favorite photos of him.

my Uncle Brian, my Uncle Paul, and my dad—with the contagious smile.

I’ve always loved this one.

My mom and dad were married 35 years ago on June 10th in Portage, Indiana. He was 20, and she was 21. I’m including the bridesmaid photo, because I just love that smile.

  1. June 8th was 20 years since my dad died. I was so little, and I only have 1 memory of him. I wish I had gotten the chance to know him, but until I get to meet him in heaven, I have stories to show me who he was. Hugs to you, my friend. I'm sure your daddy is watching over you, and is so proud of who you are today.

  3. Oh Ernie and Bert:
Thats what I called you two when you were little and we were all at Ravenswood together. Your dad certainly is very proud of all of you. Thanks for the reminders of him. I was blessed to have him as a friend for a few years! I was devastated when I learned about the cancer and visited regularly in the hosiptal. I did not seem right, and opened my eyes to some of the harder things in life. I do know this world is a better place because he was here! For some reason, I do not want you to stop counting, not sure I can explain...
    Peace to you and family.

  4. Beautiful post, Rachel. My mother passed away when I was 15, very close to Christmas, so I absolutely understand what you mean about the sad day slipping in among the happy ones. Thinking of you <3
