friday favorites

F R I D A Y   F A V O R I T E S
Above is my newest favorite photo. I took it at Olive Garden on our way home from Indiana on Monday. Olive Garden is one of Steve and my favorite places to eat (when we spot one), but we had our hands full this time. Nolan wouldn’t eat anything, and he had to be taken away from the table and be scolded several times. Yet during the meal, people kept coming up to us and telling us how beautiful our sons were. I don’t know if they were complimenting us because they remember how challenging it is to bring little kids to a restaurant, or if they really thought our boys were exceptionally cute—but it made my night. Someday I hope to remember moments like that, and pass on that encouragement to another tired mom and dad :)

I know that little girls like to try on their mommy’s makeup, but I had to laugh when I caught Nolan putting on a heavy layer of blush yesterday. He said he wanted to be beautiful! Who can argue with that?

He looks so much like his daddy here! :)

My sister-in-law Dana pulled out this cookie dough ice cream to share with me on Monday, and it was AMAZING! It might even be better than Edy’s! I can’t buy Blue Bell in my state—but if you can—go buy a half-gallon and enjoy it for me :)

When we got home from our trip on Tuesday, we put Ephraim to bed, and he threw up for the first time all over his crib. I was so worried about him! He excitedly drank a lot of milk in the middle of the night, and then immediately lost all of it as well. But praise God, it didn’t happen again, and he seems to be recovered now. I am so glad it was a short bug! And (knock on wood) none of the rest of us got sick.

After a rough day, he “helped” unload the dishwasher. He may not have felt good, but he was still smiley and cuddly! We have been laying low at home, which is fine because it’s been quite snowy anyway.

This weekend, I’m excited to start some holiday baking! I am thinking about making these corn flake marshmallow wreaths again. They are so delicious and festive. I also have some chocolate mice treats to create for the church Christmas program on Sunday :)

What are you up to this weekend?
Less than two weeks until Christmas—I have a lot of shopping to do! :)

  1. I have so often said that I want to remember how it feels to be a young mama with kids in public places or in general and encourage those young mamas when I am old. Nothing means more than when an older mom offers encouragement when you are out and about... I agree with you. That face that your son is making in the first picture is priceless. :-)

  2. Ahh...Blue Bell....I definitely can't resist if it is in my freezer so I don't often buy it but I am running a 1/2 marathon on Sunday and I already know my reward is going to be Blue Bell Christmas Cookie ice cream....so...darn good! I don't even think I'll need a bowl. And ironically I have a similar story that also took place at an Olive Garden when my now 21 year old was 2...he was acting up and there was a man that just kept looking over at our table and my husband was getting so irritated thinking this man was judging us...the man came over before he left and told us how much he had enjoyed watching our family because he had been working in the states and had not seen his in 6 months! I will never forget it.

  3. I can't stop laughing at that first picture of Ephraim....so cute! And yes, isn't it so nice to be complimented by other parents who have "been there." I remember being mortified by my kids "busyness" in church one sunday and so many people came up to me after and told me how cute they were and how they made the service. so nice!

  6. Aww, I can so relate to your restaurant story. In fact, after having to leave in the middle of a meal once and take our food to go, we swore off restaurants for a good 6 months. Your boys are so sweet, the blush pic is too cute :)
