Yesterday, my MOPS group started back up again after the summer! Our steering committee designed this baseball shirt for the leaders to wear, and I am in love with it! Our group hadn't met since May, and I was excited to see my friends and a lot of new faces. I know that many of my acquaintances through the blog and Instagram are a part of MOPS in their hometowns, but I wanted to share a little bit about it for those of you who aren't familiar. And I encourage you, if you're a mother of preschoolers, babies, or even if you're pregnant--find a group near you!
Here's what to expect in a typical MOPS meeting: in my MOPS group, we drop off our kids at their program and we meet together in our own room. There is always coffee, drinks, and plenty of options for brunch foods and snacks. We have time to talk and catch up with the ladies at our table. Then, we enter into a scheduled time where we'll have a guest speaker, a video, a game, or a craft. The topics are always different, but they all swirl around motherhood. Afterward, our tables have a time of discussion.
This year's theme is "A Fierce Flourishing". We hope to discover more of who God made us to be by celebrating lavishly, embracing rest, and noticing goodness. The theme verse is Isaiah 55: 12, "For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace: the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth in to singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands."
I'm starting my fifth year of MOPS (the third in my current group), and I am so grateful for the friendships that I've made! Moving to new towns hasn't been easy, but I've found that having a group to belong to has made my transitions so much smoother.
"If you are a mom,
you belong in this tribe
where you are fully loved and accepted and wanted.
We don’t care what you look like or where you’ve been.
We’ll share
hot coffee,
practical mom talk
and an authenticity
that will let you know we each have our own mess,
but it’s covered by a big God who loves us and wants us to
flourish."

ReplyDeleteSuch a cute shirt!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing my third year of MOPS this year (other two were in another MOPS group). I designed the shirts for our group this year. They turned out super cute! It's each moms welcome gift though, so each mom gets a shirt at the first meeting. I'm doing publicity with another girl this year. I'm really just helping her out where she needs (she's about to have a baby). What's your role this year?
ReplyDeleteThat's a great shirt! I never knew that MOPS was organized like that- I always thought it was just a play group that gave moms a chance to talk. Now I'm doubly looking forward to joining one when we move back to the states!
