We're taking a little trip down memory lane today! Halloween is in eleven days, and I have costumes on the brain. Steve and I have had fun choosing the boys' costumes for the past four years. We usually decide at the last-minute how they are going to dress up, and then we make it work! We don't do scary, and we don't like to spend much money on it. :)
Here are the costumes from years past!
2011
On Nolan's first Halloween, he was only seven weeks-old! My friend Meghan gave him a one-piece cotton Batman suit (with a printed cape). We posted the above photo on Facebook and said, "Nolan Bruce Wayne says Happy Halloween!"
2012
Nolan's second Halloween is hands-down my favorite costume. "Braveheart Baby" with his handsewn kilt was a huge hit with our friends and family. Steve and I fell in love as summer camp counselors, and at camp we would play Braveheart, a giant capture-the-flag game. There is so much nostalgia in this costume! We started him off early :) #futurecampcounselor
2013
The following year, Nolan was two, and we dressed him up as a little lumberjack in flannel, jeans, and a messy black beard. He wanted nothing to do with the coonskin cap :)
2014
Last year was Ephraim's first Halloween! I found a cute duck costume for a couple of bucks at a rummage sale. I loved the little striped leggings! He was ADORABLE! We went to a Halloween party for a few hours, and my shy little guy stuck to my hip all night long.
Nolan wore his Daddy's vintage Robin costume. Hand-painted by one of his great-aunts, this superhero costume was worn all the time by little Steve.
Even Nolan's Hammie dog got a mini yellow cape. :)
So this year, Nolan wants us to be the cast of Jake and the Neverland Pirates. I haven't totally said yes, but when Nolan gets set on something, there is no changing his mind. And wouldn't Ephraim make the most perfect blonde-haired, blue-eyed Cubby?
I'm not sure how I'm going to find/make Jake's vest and boots. Suggestions are welcome! :)

ReplyDeleteDuct tape! I cut an older t-shirt into a vest and put coloured duct tape on the seams and up to make a collar. If you put sneakers on them and use cardboard to frame a boot then you can put duct tape around on them to fill in boots. It's only good for a one time deal but it works great! The vest is still in our tickle trunk! Good luck!

Such cute costumes!!! I love all the plaid haha. Do you have a Costco nearby? They sold Jake costumes last year at a decent price if all else fails.
ReplyDeletePinterest for the jake costume. I looked for pirates because my daughter wants to be one and there are tons of ideas. One with a blue shirt and yellow duct tape!

ReplyDeleteSo cute! That braveheart one is my favorite! Good luck on the costumes this year! I wish I had time to make Xavier's costumes. Thankfully this year I ordered early and was able to get it pretty cheap. And the best part is that he will wear it a few times for parties and such, and then can use it to play around the house :)
