What's Up Wednesday

Today, I'm excited to join in on What's Up Wednesday for the first time!

What we're eating this week. . .

Nolan and I made these brown butter donuts again yesterday, and they are amazing! They melt in your mouth and fill every chocolate craving. They're also made from scratch, and baked instead of fried, so there's no guilt. . . none at all ;)

I'm going to make this Asian Ramen Noodle Salad for lunch either tomorrow or Friday. I am so bad about making lunches, so I need to get on the ball and start planning ahead!

As for sweets, I am thinking about my Chubby Hubby Bars or Graham Cracker Toffee. My boys are crazy for sugar, so I will have to hide them, for sure :)

What I'm reminiscing about. . .

I am thinking back on our vacation to Family Camp this summer! I am a summer girl through and through, and I wouldn't mind being back on the lake for a few more days before the weather gets cold!

What I'm loving. . .

Steve has been working on our first floor bathroom! We've had plans to redo it ever since we moved in over two years ago. I will have to share photos soon! Maybe tomorrow?

What we've been up to. . .

We went to the Moon Party this past weekend, and that lunar eclipse was so cool!

Nolan's FOUR year check-up was yesterday. He was a champ! He's around the 60th percentile for height and weight, and he aced all of the questions the doctor asked him. Nolan, Ephraim, and I all got flu shots, and rewarded ourselves with the donuts above. :)

What I'm dreading. . .

Waking up early! Ephraim has been crying out for me a lot in the middle of the night, and then it's hard for me to get up in the mornings. I need coffee before my feet hit the floor!

What I'm working on. . .

I'm working on Halloween decor for Astleigh's and my link-up next week. (Join us on October 8th if you have Halloween touches to share!) Right now, I have a mix of Fall Decor and Nolan's Camping Party on the mantel, so I have to figure out how I'm going to twist it into a non-scary Halloween motif.

What I'm excited about. . .

I can't wait to see our nieces this weekend! It's been over two months, and Nolan and Ephraim are SO excited to play with their cousins!

What I'm watching. . .

We wrapped up watching the entire series of Royal Pains this summer, so it's on to White Collar! We've really been enjoying it so far. . . definitely right up the alley of what Steve and I like to watch together.

What I'm reading. . .

Currently, I'm reading Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace. This is my first Dave Ramsey book, and I am glued to it! I am learning so much about personal finances, and I can't wait to start putting some of his advice into practice.

What I'm listening to. . .

Right now, a super loud cricket hiding in our living room (we can't find it). And pouring RAIN. We have had over 5 inches in 24 hours!

I also have Hillsong United's EMPIRES album on repeat. It's a favorite!

What I'm wearing. . .

I'm wearing this charcoal-colored dress from Eleventh Avenue. It may not be on there now, but it was called the "Everyday Tee Dress". I often go on Eleventh Avenue and search for "Lucy and Lyla" items, because they sell such cute clothes!

I'm also wearing outfits like these three below--plaid, jeans, and lightweight scarves. I can't wait to bring out my brown boots and fall wedges!

What I'm doing this weekend. . .

Spending time with Steve's side of the family at his cousin's wedding!

What I'm looking forward to next month. . .

October is a BEAUTIFUL month in Pennsylvania. We get to see the most amazing leaf colors and landscapes. I'm looking forward to visiting the pumpkin patch with the boys, spending an evening looking at the elk, and engaging in other fun fall traditions :)

What's your favorite Halloween tradition?

I am a little on the fence about how much I like Halloween, but I get really excited about dressing up the boys and making memories with them. Last year, they were a little baby duck and Batman's Robin. This year, Nolan's already talking about being a Pirate family. We will see if that works out! :)

The Moon Party

You all know that I love a good theme party. ;) Our friends Sue and Denny announced that they were going to throw a "Moon Party" to watch the Supermoon combine with a Lunar Eclipse last night. They live in a cabin on a mountain, several miles away, with a great view of the Pennsylvania countryside. Our boys are usually in bed at eight, so we weren't able to stay until the actual eclipse, but Steve and I got to see it from our front porch.

In chalk, "Shine On, Harvest Moon!"

Tumnus, the nine-week-old puppy :)

It starts getting dark out around seven now, so my camera was starting to blur. I am already missing the long summer nights!

Inside the house, there were moon decorations, glow bracelets for the kids, and a delicious spread of snacks.

While the moon peeked through the swiftly-moving clouds, we sang worships songs, including "God of Wonders", "Indescribable" and "All Creatures of our God and King". Lyrics like, "the universe declares your majesty" and "thou silver moon with softer gleam, O praise Him" seem to make so much sense singing outside in nature, don't they?

s

We drove home and put the tired little boys to bed. We sat out on the porch as the eclipse began, and a little after ten, the "blood moon" made its appearance. Soon the sky went dark for the rest of the evening. I don't believe I've ever watched an eclipse, and I'm happy I got to share the experience with family and friends last night!

Did you catch the supermoon lunar eclipse?

Hope you had a great weekend!

P.S. For those of you who signed up for the scarf exchange, remember to get those scarves out in the mail today!

Link up with Astleigh and me next Thursday, October 8th to share your Halloween decor! For all those who link up, I'll be sending you a free Halloween printable!

Friday Favorites

It's Friday! The leaves are officially falling, and it's in the high 60s, so I am starting to get a little more excited about fall. It hasn't been the easiest week, and I am thankful to see the weekend! Take a look at some of our highlights from the past few days:

These are my favorite photos from the week! It is so rare that these boys slow down enough to get their photo taken. It requires a very fast shutter, that's for sure! ;)

We are still getting plenty of harvest from our garden! Our cherry tomatoes only recently started ripening, so we have bowls full of them in the fridge. The raspberries are still going strong, though I'm sure they'll taper off in the next week or so. I pick around 100 raspberries every other day!

And these are our FIVE pumpkins! They all came from the same seed and vine, therefore they are all similar in size and shape (tall and skinny)! I am so proud of them :)
My favorite meal this week was when I revisited my French Onion Soup recipe (an Applebee's copycat). It is the best, and my mouth is watering just thinking about it again! If you're a French Onion Soup lover, give it a whirl--it's not too hard!

I also retried this recipe for copycat Chick-Fil-A Nuggets. My boys thought they were delicious! I personally love them with honey drizzled all over them :)

On Tuesday, I shared our new porch color. We took an afternoon and painted a light gray over all of the old red, which had gotten so dirty. It looks much fresher! Thanks for your tips on how to make the porch an even better space :)

Speaking of DIY home projects, I posted about this little sewing table yesterday. Found on the side of the road, we painted it white and adorned it with aged bronze hardware. It has a new life as our entryway table!

My favorite moment this week was definitely holding our pet butterfly. On Wednesday, I shared all the photos of her caterpillar- to chrysalis- to butterfly transformation. It was so amazing to watch! I only wish we could have kept her longer!

My mom and stepdad Don had a really hard week this week. To make a long story short, Don made a couple of visits to the hospital with vertigo, low blood pressure, and stomach trouble. The doctors found a small ulcerated mass in his stomach, causing internal bleeding. We waited a couple of days for a biopsy, and we were very worried. But, PRAISE GOD--his biopsy was benign! Most likely, he has had this mass inside for a long time. He had to have a few blood transfusions since he had lost so much blood. He went home on Wednesday, but the doctors still need to decide what road is best to take with the small mass so that it doesn't continue to be troublesome for Don. Prayers are welcome :)

For this last weekend of September, we've got a few projects going on at home. I can't wait to see how the rest of the weekend will pan out :) As long as the boys are in good moods, I am happy!

Have a good one! See you back here on Monday.
