Mother’s Day Weekend

This was one of those weekends that was so good for the soul! The weather has been unseasonably warm. It usually doesn’t hit the high 80s in Pennsylvania until July, but we’ve experienced those temps now in early May! The warmth, mixed with a special little holiday, made for a rejuvenating weekend!

Friday was a day of errands and projects. We bought some babyproofing items at Lowe’s (the babyproofing never ends!) and took our new car to get it inspected and fixed up. Steve packaged up our broken Nikon and took it to UPS to send to the company and get it fixed. I will miss it! We spent quite a bit of time outside—the boys are crazy about the sandbox! Sweet and sour chicken was on the take-out menu for dinner, and it was a win all the way around!

On Saturday, we took Nolan to the “Build and Grow” workshop at Lowe’s to make a wooden Mother’s Day planter. In the afternoon, I saw“Mommy Robin” bring back a worm, so I went outside to glimpse inside her nest. The babies have hatched! They are so quiet and small, you would never know they were in there. Since the weather has been so warm, I decided to go ahead and plant my vegetable garden—zucchini, corn, green beans, and tomatoes! The seeds from the pumpkins I composted last fall have started growing (the tiny leaves of green in the soil in the above photo). Saturday night, we headed out to my mom’s house for dinner. We had the most delicious meal of pizza from our favorite restaurant, homemade bread, green bean casserole, and mint chocolate chip ice cream. The boys loved playing with all the toys at MorMor’s house!

And Sunday found the four of us at church. Steve and Nolan surprised me with a special rendition of “Happy Mother’s Day to you” during the service. They wore matching white shirts, red ties, and khakis. Nolan donned his tiger-striped sunglasses and owned the drumset! He just might have a life of entertaining ahead of him!

After church, we ate brunch food at home and two of the four of us took a nap. I ran a couple of errands and picked up some food for dinner. I couldn’t resist buying a few donuts for the special occasion! My mom came over, and we indulged before the boys headed to bed. :) I’m thankful for this season of life, when I get to live only a few miles from my mother, and across the street from my mother-in-law! And I’m thankful for my babies, who have given me such a purposeful life.

How was your weekend? Did you enjoy Mother’s Day?
