When I was growing up, my grandma had the entire collection of “Rodgers and Hammerstein” movies, and I have sweet memories of watching them with her at her house in Indiana. “The Sound of Music” was my favorite. I loved the song “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” with Liesl and Rolf dancing in the gazebo in the rain. Ah, so romantic! And of course, I love the scene with the song, “My Favorite Things” when the kids are finally warming up to Maria during a thunderstorm.
I’m excited to watch the live telecast of “The Sound of Music” tonight! I love Carrie Underwood—I think she has a classy image and a phenomenal voice. (I don’t typically like country music, but I know all her songs!) If anyone can fill Julie Andrews’ iconic shoes in the role of Maria—it’s Carrie.
It’s going to be so fun to watch and know that they’re actually performing it at the same time in New York City—with no editing and no retakes. It’s definitely a three-hour experience that the whole family can watch together!
Will you be watching along with me tonight?

I am definitely going to watch! Although it will be very hard (to me, at least) for this to live up to the Julie Andrews version. Such a classic!

ReplyDeleteI will be! But unfortunately I won't be home until after it has started so I'm taping it. Can't wait to watch it!
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to this too! There's just something about live tv. We recently shared the original with our girls and they loved it. Hoping they enjoy this one just as much!
ReplyDeleteI love the Sound of Music and can't wait to watch it! I unfortunately have to dvr it since today is Xavier's birthday, and tomorrow night will be spent prepping for his party on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see how Carrie does! It is one of my favorite movies, and we even performed the musical when I was in elementary school! Super excited!
I remember my parents coming home from seeing the 1965 movie at the theater. The youngest von Trapp daughter, Gretl, age 5, reminded them of my younger sister, who was 4 at the time, throughout the entire movie!
